Noah's Path, in collaboration with Centro Veterinario La Marina Exóticos (Spain), Tulane National Primate Research Center (USA) and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain), has a new publication on a study of cases of intestinal infection with Encephalitozoon hellem in passerine birds and lovebirds (Rosell J, Máinez M, Didier ES, Bowers LC, Marco A, Juan-Sallés C: Encephalitozoon hellem infection in aviary passerine and psittacine birds in Spain. Veterinary Parasitology 219:57-60, 2016). Encephalitozoonosis and other microsporidial infections are being documented frequently in different avian species, particularly in studies of fecal shedding, but also as a cause of disease and death in passerine, psittacine and raptor birds. Encephalitozoonosis is not just a rabbit disease - it can affect numerous species including rodents, primates, carnivores, sloths, seals, other mammals, birds or reptiles).
