Demonstrating for the first time the occurrence of vertical transmission for Toxoplasma gondii and apparent reactivation of a latent infection in one of the nonhuman primate species considered highly susceptible to acute disseminated toxoplasmosis, which adds a relevant epizootiological factor to the knowledge of this protozoal disease, which can be devastating for some New World monkey and lemur colonies in captivity.
